Description
Mark and Elaine, Atlas’ owners were excited to discover Lighthouse Gin, during their travels in New Zealand in 2016.
It was only Atlas’ second New Zealand gin, to enter the Gin Bible, and proved to be a hugely popular Gin of the week.
Greytown Fine Distillates is the brainchild of Neil Catherall, the company’s distiller and master craftsman, and Andrew Wright, a local businessman.
Their vision and drive was combined with the energy and enthusiasm of distiller James Graham to form the core team responsible for bringing Lighthouse Gin to us.
The Lighthouse brand was inspired by the spectacular Cape Palliser Lighthouse at the southernmost tip of the Wairarapa and the southernmost tip of the North Island of New Zealand.
Under the watch of the iconic Cape Palliser lighthouse, pure mountain spring water is blended with hand-zested naval oranges, yen ben lemons and hints of native botanicals – including leaves of the peppery native botanicals.
A wonderfully soft and delicate New Zealand gin. It is clean and light with lemon and eucalyptus flavours at the forefront and a particularly floral bouquet. There are hints of pepper accompanied by a fresh, pine taste.
Lighthouse Gin is made by hand in the classic ‘distilled dry gin’ tradition, utilising nine botanicals in their natural state. The distillers create the gin in a 200-litre copper still, which Neil designed himself, and had specially built by local craftsmen at 2K Design in Masterton.
The final formula of Lighthouse Gin remains a secret, but the distillers believe they have achieved a distinctive and complex gin that is smooth and fresh. We couldn’t agree more!
Our perfect serve would be with a premium tonic and cucumber garnish, or even better, enjoy this with a Double Dutch Cucumber and Watermelon Tonic.
Just divine!
